Efforts will lie, but will never be in vain.

Pamiętacie ten występ Petrovej i Tikhonova z Pragi?

A jeszcze chiałam poruszyć kwestię tych wszystkich nowopowstałych duetów i rozpadu starych.

New Marina Zoueva interview: «I’m proud to work with Sinitsina/Katsalapov»
Q: What made you to agree to work with them?
A: First of all, their great desire. I’m simply proud to be working with such a team. I’m often asked how I manage to keep motivated, to keep looking for some new ideas for my programs, how I manage to not get tired or deflated. I don’t know what to answer. I guess it’s because of my pupils. They manage to light my fire.
Q: But you were still surprised when Nikita called you?
A: Very surprised. And I was very impressed by the fact that he used his Olympic prize money to come to Detroit, it’s the first time in my practice when a figure skater invests the money earned in his career. And for me, this speaks volumes. First of all, it confirms Nikita’s determination. To work with Nikita and Victoria is very interesting. They managed to capture not just me, but also the other coaches in my team. The time flies so fast at our practices with them, that it goes unnoticed. Sometimes it can be funny: I ask: «Nikita, what time is it?» and he answers confusedly: «Oh, I don’t know»
Q: Did your group welcome the newcomers?
A: They immediately started taking care of them. At first Nikita and Victoria lived in the hotel, not they rent apartments. Nikita’s language skills are very good, he’s fluent in spoken and written English. Victoria is still learning the language. But she is such an open, nice and friendly girl that she immediately made friends in Detroit who are willing to help her, and her English gets better every day. Vika and Nikita always stay after practices, when everyone finishes, they stay on the ice for a long time, not willing to leave.
Q: Tessa and Scott, Meryl and Charlie were considered unreachable in ice dancing, is it possible to get Sinitsina and Katsalapov to the same level?
A: It’s possible. I believe in it. This is why we started our collaboration.
Q: Nikita is considered the most talented partner in the world. Do you agree?
A: Yes. He is very musical. His feeling of the music is so fine and deep, he is so masterful in translating his feeling into movement… Believe me, it’s very rare even in outstanding dancers. It’s a rare gift.
Q: You made an exhibition number for them to a very romantic, soft music. Does it mean this is how you see them, all soft tones, no passion, no drama?
A: Passion and drama are present in the short dance, especially in the step sequence. You must agree, flamenco is impossible without passion. In the exhibition number, it was important for me to see how well Nikita and Victoria are able to show the relationship between man and woman in all its subtlety. We already have an idea for the free dance which we are going to start working on in June, but I don’t want to disclose it yet.
Q: Is Nikita’s new look your influence?
A: No, I had nothing to do with it. But I think the change in appearance is a reflection of what’s happening inside. It says that he feels his inner strength, his responsibility for Victoria, his leading role in the team, his role as a leader. A man you can rely on 100%.
Marina adds that Sinitsina/Katsalapov will debut their programs at the test skates, and will participate in one Grand Prix event, which one will be known after the ISU congress.
Sovsport also tried to get Nikita's comment on the split, but he said he wouldn't want to return to the topic: "I made a decision. I will let my actions speak for the rightness of it. Let the past stay in the past. I don't think it should be talked about much."
A także Nikity
First he was asked about his army service, he tells how it taught them discipline, about the excitement of the oath, etc.
Q: Now you will be spending most of your time in the U.S.?
A: Yes, we will be training there. I came to Moscow for ten days literally, to skate in the gala, to finish my military service, and do some paperwork. I go back on Sunday, it’s time to start training, work on new programs.
Q: How quickly have you found mutual understanding with your new partner?
A: Actually, the period of adjustment can last a lifetime. You can always find something new in each other. We are both accomplished athletes already, I worked with many coaches, tried different approaches. Now my attitude has changed completely, I take each movement more professionally, everything is more thought-through. First of all, I had a lot of pleasure working with Victoria. We got used to skating together really quickly.
Q: Have you already started working on new programs?
A: We are already working on new short dance. You all know it’s pasodoble. We haven’t started yet working on the free. We now listen to tons of music, choosing the direction which would be the most interesting for us to work and develop. This is what we are going to attack when I’m back to the U.S. It’s time to decide.
Q: Is there any direction you’re leaning towards more?
A: Yes, many, that’s the problem. Most important thing is to find something that suits us, our personalities, our style. The first season will be hard anyway - we are a new team. The judges, the audience will be watching us closely. So we are going to approach it with great care. Especially the judges. If I made this decision, I have to do it much better.
Q: How dramatically is your style going to change?
A: I heard many times that the style is something that comes from within. So our style will be something that comes from Victoria and me. I don’t know what it will be yet.
Q: Who is going to choreograph yor programs?
A: Our coach - Marina Zoueva. Bu she is not alone, there are many people who work on it, Oleg Epstein, others. Marina won’t be alone, there will be many people to look from outside, what’s better, what’s worse. It’s a big plus.
Q: Are you going to participate in the choreography, or will delegate that to the experts?
A: I’m for the athletes suggesting something, it helps to accelerate the process. Many coaches like that, too. I like to think about and work on programs with the team, this is learning process for me as well. So Vika and I will definitely take part in choreography.

"First of all, it was not the first time we had performed there and we were able to witness the way the country has evolved. It's so annoying to me that people criticized that choice because what a leader is doing in a country such as North Korea shouldn't impact or prevent the citizens from opening up to different aspects of the world. We are sportsmen and artists above all and we don't pay attention to narrow minded people like that. We brought music they've never heard, daring costumes and we gave them a peak at what's going on somewhere else. We were able to convince the North Korean Figure Skating Federation to send their sportsmen abroad with the help of other skaters... which happened in Nice."
